KyAEA Summer Board Meeting 2015

The KyAEA Board met in Springfield KY at Washington County High School for our Summer Board Meeting. Below are some of the highlights of that meeting. • We welcomed 2 new board members: Tara Luster, Middle school Representative and Staci Goggins, Elementary School Representative. • I shared some highlights from the SE Leadership conference this summer in New Orleans. Miles and I worked hard on new ideas and presented Kentucky highlights! We also got to hang out at the George Rodrique Foundation for the Arts and be surrounded by huge Blue Dog paintings! We were inspired by Deborah Reeve to lead with “Fire”. • Ilona gave us her vision statement of promoting the Arts for All Art Teachers and making KyAEA more visible in Kentucky. She also spoke about reaching out to art teachers who are losing their jobs across the state and being proactive with Kentucky legislators. • Melisa Gano reported on the status of the New National Standards. She also discussed the Career Pathways material and showed us that they are recently located on CITS opening page. We will be posting Q and A regarding these and Program Review on the KyAEA Website. • Miles gave an exciting review of the progress so far on the Fall Conference plans. We have exciting keynote speakers, and wonderful sessions being planned out. All the plans are coming together for a terrific conference! Reserve your room soon! We are getting a terrific deal but they will not hold the rooms for long because of Keeneland. • The All State Art Competition is set for April 10-24 with the reception on the 24th@2 pm in Covington, KY at the Behringer-Crawford Museum. • Don’t forget to create a fabulous Regional Basket to raise $ for our Perkins Scholarship Fund! Also encourage students to apply for the scholarship! • Look for an announcement to continue our partnership with Kosair Children’s Hospital. Last year was a great success with several schools participating. • A Big Thank You to Marilyn for hosting us and for teaching us the art of Indigo Dye!
