The American Sport Art Museum Mobile, AL

Artist/Sculptor Bruce Larsen
During the NAEA Southeastern Leadership Conference we toured the American Sport Art Museum in Mobile Alabama. We were honored to have the sculptor/Artist Bruce Larsen show up to give us a personal outside tour of his huge sculptures! They are made out of old farm machinery and all sorts of old metal items that have been cast away by others only to be made into art by Bruce.
The Museum features many artists and artwork showcasing every sport you can imagine using many various styles and types of media.
I loved this sculpture featuring cyclists and the Olympic rings!

NAEA Southeast Leadership Conference 2012 Mobile, AL

The NAEA Southeast Leadership Conference met in Mobile, Alabama July 12-14 this year. It was a very full 3 days of work, sightseeing, work and sharing! Larry Gibson was our Alabama Host and he did a marvelous job of setting up so many wonderful activities. We met artists, went to a museum, had some leisure time on the beach, looked for dolphins on a sunset cruise, and ate some great food! Thanks Larry! The rest of the time we worked on position statements that will go on to the delegates assembly in Ft. Worth for the NAEA National Conference 2013. We also presented state reports about what was going on in our state. The Southeast Conference is comprised of 10 states; Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, and Louisiana. Each state usually has at least 2 representatives, usually the President and the President-Elect. Unfortunately, our president, Kimberly Newton was unable to attend so she asked our treasurer, Kelli Combs to attend. Kelli and I worked very hard while we were there to represent our state and the students that we all teach.
