National Art Education Association National Conference March 2-5, 2022 NEW YORK CITY!
Such fun to meet up each year for the group Photo after the first general session! Participating as a delegate at the National Conference to represent KyAEA is a great honor and responsibility. Each state is represented by either 1 or 2 delegates. This year we were only allowed 1 delegate due to a drop in our membership over the last 4 years. In order to qualify for the 2nd delegate a state must have 300 members. Rachael and Susan were able to sit with me and learn the procedures and policy's of delegates. They also were able to participate in discussions and vision boards. The preparation for the delegate conversations begins at the Summer Leadership meeting (this past summer we met in Richmond, VA) The position statements are reviewed and discussed by the participants. New position statements are also proposed for the coming year. So when the representatives of each state arrive for the Delegates assembly they are well prepared and ready to vote. This year since some of the members attended virtually we voted prior to the meeting in NYC. At Delegates we reviewed the position statements and the votes. We also shared ideas on boards using post it notes. Each state brings a small gift for everyone too! The position statements are located on the NAEA website to assist teachers when they need to know policy or share with administrators and policy makers. Summer Leadership Conference Richmond Virginia
Vendors is also a great part of the national conference where participants can try out some of the many products and walk away with lots of free products and give aways. It is the favorite part of the conference for many of the attendees. Another great part of conference is connecting with art teacher friends, sightseeing, enjoying time together, and seeing a show! We honored our art educator of the Year, Marilyn Peters at the SE AWARD CEREMONY! Each year this is a very big deal and well attended by Kentucky. We waved our celebration banners and celebrated with each state. Marilyn was unable to attend but was able to watch virtually. And of course art teachers are going to seek out art museums!
Here's a few more pics of me just enjoying NYC!
